For the second game in a row, senior forward Elizabeth Allanach scored 13 of the Ladycats 15 first-quarter points to prime the offense in first-place Aledo’s 53-42 victory over Abilene Cooper.
The victory means that the Ladycats have clinched a playoff spot in the District 4-5A.
In Tuesday’s game, Allanach scored Aledo’s first six points and single-handedly kept the Ladycats from falling too far behind during Cooper’s hot start. The Lady Cougars had taken an early 5-0 lead before Allanach hit a three-pointer with 5:13 left in the first quarter.
Allanach then hit three free throws after getting fouled in a three-point attempt to cut the Cooper lead to 7-6. After Cooper stretched the lead to 12-8, Allanach scored the final seven points of the quarter to give the Lady Cats the lead for good.
The Ladycats outscored Cooper 13-4 in the second quarter to open up a double digit lead they were able to keep for the the rest of the game.
The Ladycats improve to 5-0 is District 4-5A play and 21-8 overall with the victory. They remain a game ahead of Abilene Wylie, which had a 69-30 victory over Wichita Falls Rider on Tuesday.
The Ladycats will play Abilene Wylie next Tuesday in the second meeting of the teams, which may determine the district championship.
Allanach finished with 22 points to lead all scorers in the game. Riley Sale added 12 points and post Maddie Shumway scored nine points.
