Ladycats Sweep Lubbock Monterey with 17-1 Win in Regional Semifinal

Aledo catcher Breleigh Mayer hit a pair of home runs to drive in five runs as the Ladycats advanced to the Regional finals with a 17-1 five-inning run-rul win over Lubbock Monterey Friday in Holliday.

Mayer had a two run homer in the second inning and a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give her 11 home runs for the season. Mayer also had a solo home run Thursday in Aledo’s 3-1 victory in the first game against Monterey.

Rylee Marx added a solo home run and a sacrifice fly for two RBI.

Pitcher Tempe Perry pitched a complete game and was 2-for-4 from the plate with 3 RBI and she scored twice. Third baseman Kayleigh Pawlak went 2-4, including a double, and she had 3 RBI. Kellyn Overturff had2 RBI and scored twice

This was the second time in the last three playoff games that Aledo has scored 17 runs.

The Ladycats also had some sterling plays on defense. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Aledo right fielder Kayleigh Martin fielded a hard-hit line drive on one hop and threw a strike to first base to get the batter out to end the inning.

Aledo improved to 28-10 on the season and advances to the regional final, where they will play the winner of the Abilene vs. Richland playoff series.
