The Aledo JV Black team overcame a sloppy start to rally past Trinity 21-18 Thursday at Bearcat Stadium.
Trinity jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter when Aledo fumbled the ball away on its first three possessions.
The Aledo offense finally got on track after quarterback Waldron Byars hit Kaden Dees for a 45-yard gain and two plays later Micah Teague punched it in to cut the lead to 12-7. Aledo took the lead thwn Byars threw a screen pass to Teague that went for a 24-yard score to make it 13-12.
Aledo added a score on its first drive of the second half, which was capped by a 1 yard TD run by Noah Fernihough. Byars then threw a two-point conversion pass to Kouper Hollingsworth to make it 21-12.
Aledo then held off a furious Trinity rally. The Trojans scored with 5:24 left in the game to make it 21-18, then got the ball back for one more chance at the win. On the last play of the game, Aledo’s defense stopped a Trinity receiver at the 5-yard line.
