Aledo JV Falls to North Crowley, 26-23

The Aledo junior varsity scored with 14 seconds left to cut the lead to three points but couldn’t come up with an onside kick to complete the comeback.

The Bearcats fell behind 14-0, even though Aledo turned North Crowley over the first two times they had the ball. Aledo had a fumble recovery on the Panther’s first possession and an interception on North Crowley’s second possession.

The Panthers took a 6-0 lead when they got a 63-yard TD run on their third possession late in the first quarter. On their next possess, the Panthers drove 59-yards to score on a three yard run and a two-point conversion run made it 14-0 with 5:04 left in the first half.

Aledo’s offense then came to life.

Sky Bradford got the drive going with a 28-yard run, then quarterback Sawyer Smith threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Brighton LaRusch to cut the lead to 14-7 with 3:45 left in the half.

On North Crowley’s first play of its next drive, corner back Parker Reilley intercepted a pass and returned it down to the 9-yardline.

Two plays later, running back Rudy Hubbard scored on a 3-yard run and kicker Truitt Woods added the PAT kick to tie the game 14-14 with 2:28 left in the half.

North Crowley then drove the ball all the way down to the to the 9-yard line before turning the ball over on downs on the final play of the half.

North Crowley got a 29-yard TD pass to open the third quarter and take a 20-14 lead.

After Aledo turned the ball over on downs, the Bearcat defense came up with a fumble to get its fourth turnover of the game.

Aledo got a 25-yard field goal to make it 20-17

North Crowley responded with another touchdown pass to make it 26-17 with 7:35 left in the game.

Later in the fourth quarter, North Crowley turned the ball over on downs at their own 32. However, Aledo could not take advantage of the field possession.

But the Aledo defense came up with it’s fifth turnover, an interception, which led to the touchdown pass with 14 seconds left in the game.

In the JV-B game to start the night, Aledo came away with a 27-6 victory. North Crowley scored with 40 second left in the game to keep the Bearcats from earning a shutout.
