Sophomore left hander Brenlee Gonzales pitched four innings of no-hit relief for the Ladycats in Friday’s 7-3 victory over Abilene Wylie in Game 2 of the 5A Regional Semifinal.
Wylie had six hits and three runs over the first three innings, before Gonzales came in and shut down the Lady Dog’s offense.
Wylie jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as the Ladycat offense failed to score in the first inning in eight playoff games. However, Aledo scored four times in the top of the second to take the lead for good.
Presley Hull reached base on a three base error, then Aledo tied the game when Ana Flores hit into a fielder’s choice to the second baseman. Allison Mallard then doubled and Maddie Jarvis hit a single. Macy Graf hit a two-run double then she scored when a pickoff throw went into centerfield to make it 4-1.
Wylie cut the lead to 4-3 after three innings by nicking starting pitcher Nathalie Touchet for single runs in each of the first three innings.
Aledo, 31-2, advances to the 5A Region 1 finals. Aledo will play the winner of the Burleson Centennial vs. Lubbock Monterey Regional Semifinal playoff series.
