Bottom of the Lineup Leads Aledo Over Wylie, 14-2

The big bats at the bottom half of the Aledo Ladycats lineup keyed two big rallies to power Aledo to a 14-2 win over Abilene Wylie in Game 1 of the 5A Region 1 Semifinal series Thursday evening at Tarleton State University Softball complex.

The bottom four players in the batting lineup scored eight of Aledo’s 14 runs, keyed by the big bat of Ana Flores, who had a solo home run and a RBI single. Flores also scored two runs.

Maddie Jarvis was 2-2 with 2 RBI and she scored three times. Reagan Davis had an RBI and scored twice, while Allison Mallard scored once.

After Aledo scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, Flores got the Aledo offense rolling by leading off the second with a home run over the left field fence. Davis kept the rally going with a single, then Jarvis and Marcy Graf walked to load the bases.

Marissa Powell then hit a 2-run single. Texas Ray followed with a RBI double and Madysen Boutwell made it 8-0 with her three-run homer over the left field fence.

Macy Graf had an RBI triple in the bottom of the third to make it 9-2, then the Ladycats scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth, keyed by the bottom of the lineup. All four players in the bottom of the lineup scored in the inning and Jarvis had a two-run single.

Aledo improved to 30-2 with the victory, while Wylie fell to 24-7.

The Ladycat’s offense has been on fire in the playoffs, scoring 10 or more runs in six of seven playoff games and they have run-ruled their opponent in each of those six games. Aledo is averaging 9.3 runs over the seven playoff games.

Pitcher Kayleigh Smith pitched the five-inning complete game, limiting Wylie to three hits. The Lady Bulldogs got all three of their hits in the third inning to score their two runs.

Game 2 of the Regional Semifinal against Wylie will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Tarleton Softball complex. If a game three is needed it will be played 30 minutes after game two.
