Kayleigh Smith scattered four hits for a complete-game 4-1 victory for the Ladycats over Colleyball Heritage in Thursday’s Game 1 of the 5A regional quarterfinal playoff series.
Aledo scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning after Texas Ray got on base on a two-out error. Madysen Boutwell then doubled and Presley Hull had a two-run double. Ana Flores brought in the third run with an RBI single.
Those were the only runs Aledo would need, but Macy Graf knocked in Aledo’s fourth run with a sacrifice fly.
Colleyville Heritage got its only run in the top of the third when Heritage got a lead off double from DeNae Vasquez Dickson and a pair of fielder’s choice ground outs to get on the board.
Heritage also had a scoring chance in the top of the fifth with a one-out triple from Vasquez Dickson. However, Smith registered one of her five strikeouts to get the second out then shortstop Graf handled a ground ball for the third out.
The two teams will meet for game two of the three-game series at 7 p.m. Friday at Colleyville Heritage.
