The Aledo Ladycats fell in five sets to Birdville in Tuesday’s bi-district playoff match at Keller Central High School.
The Lady Hawks won 25-15, 12-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-13 as the two teams traded the lead throughout the night. There were four lead changes and nine ties in the fifth set, but Birdville scored the final two points after the Ladycats had tied the score at 13-13.
After Aledo hit the ball out to give Birdville its winning point, the Birdville student section stormed the court to celebrate the playoff victory.
The Ladycats got off to slow start in the match. With the first set tied at 8-8, Birdville went on a 14-3 run to take command.
However, the second set was all Aledo. The Ladycats jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never trailed in the set.
The third set was tied 11-11 when Birdville went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-13 lead. The Ladycats made a furious rally to cut the lead to 24-21, but an unforced error gave Birdville the winning point in the set.
Momentum swung back to Aledo in the fourth set as the Ladycats jumped to a 7-2 lead and never trailed in the set. Vivian Parker had four kills during a 7-1 run that gave Aledo a 21-9 lead.
