JV Orange Bearcats roll past Denton Guyer, 31-12

Running back Matt Tague had TD runs of 52 and 44 yards in first six minutes of the game, and quarterback Gatlin Johnson threw two long TD passes to lead the Aledo JV Orange football team to a 31-12 victory over Guyer High School’s JV Thursday night.

Aledo jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game, before Guyer had gained it’s initial first down.

The Bearcats got on the scoreboard on the second play of the game when the defense hit the Guyer quarter back as he was attempting to pass. The pass ended up going backwards and Guyer recovered the ball in the end zone to give Aledo a safety.

On Aledo’s second offensive play, Tague went right up the middle for a 54-yard TD run to give the Bearcats a 9-0 lead with 7:57 to play in the first quarter. The defense then forced a three and out to give the ball back to the offense at the 47-yard line. On fourth and one from the Guyer 44, Tague took another run right up the middle for his second TD. With 4:12 left in the first quarter, Aledo had 15 points while Guyer had only run five offensive plays.

With 6:49 left before the half, kicker Morgan Huhtanen added a 31-yard field goal to make it 18-0.

The Wildcat’s offense then finally showed some signs of life as they drove 75-yards for a TD to cut the lead to 18-6 with 3:57 left in the half.

With 2:23 left in the half, Johnson threw a 64-yard TD pass to Jaedon Pellegrino to make it 25-6. Less then two minutes later, Johnson threw a TD pass to Brice McCullough for Aledo’s final points.

Guyer scored its final points on a 43-yard TD run with 1:32 left in the game.
