The Bearcats opened the Class 6A era of their storied football history by hosting Southlake Carroll Thursday in a scrimmage.
Aledo looked more than ready to move into the largest UIL classification, outscoring Carroll 21-7 during the scrimmage.
The Bearcat defense looked suffocating, not allowing Carroll to run the ball for many yards during the scrimmage. The defensive front was a strength of Aledo’s defense last season, and it looked like it will be again this season.
The bulk of Carroll’s offense on the night came on two long pass plays, one of which went for the Dragons’ only touchdown of the night.
Aledo got scores from senior receiver Kane Lanier and sophomore running back Izzy Roberts. Robert’s long touchdown run was the only score during the timed portion of the scrimmage.
Roberts broke to to far sideline and raced untouched for the 80-yard TD then celebrated with his teammates in the end zone.
The Aledo defense came up with fumble recovery and an interception late in the timed portion of the scrimmage to keep Carroll out of the end zone. The interception was caused by a tipped ball from a defensive lineman.
Aledo opens the regular season with a game at North Crowley next Friday night. The Panthers are one of the best 6A teams in the state and should give fans a measuring stick as to how well Aledo will compete at the 6A level this season.
