Laydcats Pound Birdville, 11-1, in Game One

The Aledo Ladycats continue hitting extra base hits in playoff games and took an 11-1 run rule victory in game one of the 5A Region 1 finals Thursday against Birdville.

It was Aledo’s fourth consecutive run-rule victory in the playoffs.

Thursday the Ladycats got home runs from Marina Taveras and Austyn Marriage; triples from Addie Perry, Delaney Rosser, Kyleigh Pawlak and Jordyn Edington and a double from Brooklyn Taloa.

Perry led the team with three RBI, while Edington and Pawlak each drove in two runs.

Aledo pitcher Taylor McKean had a no-hitter even though Birdville took an early 1-0 lead without the benefit of a hit. Birdville scored on a pair of walks, a sac bunt and a ground out in the second inning.

McKean finished five inning with six strikeouts and four walks.

Game two of the playoff series will be at Birdville on Friday.
