The Castleberry boys soccer season came to the end with a 3-0 loss to San Elizario Friday in the regional semifinals at Northwest ISD stadium.
The Eagles broke open a scoreless game with a score just before halftime, then added two scores in the second half.
San Elizario used physical midfield defense and an aggressive goalie to keep the Lions off the scoreboard. The Lions often tried to counter attack with passes over the top of the defense, which pressed up toward midfield to often catch Castleberry offside. San Elizario’s physical players were called for seven yellow cards and a red card in the game.
When the Castleberry attack did get a pass over the top, San Elizario’s aggressive goalie would race to the top of the penalty box area to get to the ball before the Castleberry players.
Castleberry ends the season at 26-4.
