Quarterback Hauss Hejny completed 9 of 10 passes for 235 yards and five touchdowns in a little over one quarter to lead the Aledo Bearcats to a 71-0 District 3-5A D1 victory over South Hills.
Aledo improves to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in district to set up games against Burleson Centennial and Denton Ryan over the next two weeks.
Aledo sat many offensive play makers in the game against South Hills so they will be healthier for the key games over the next two weeks. With the top two running backs out this week, Hejny used his arm to give Aledo a big lead early.
The Bearcats ran just 13 offensive plays in the first quarter but scored four touchdowns. They then scored for the fifth time on their 14th play early in the second quarter.
Hejny threw first-quarter TD passes to Trace Clarkson (47 yards), Tyson Timms (60 yards), Blake Burdine (47 yards) and Timms again (6 yards). Hejny then threw a 36-yard touchdown to Burdine early in the second quarter then called it a night.
The second string offense then poured it on as Cole Plumbley ran for three touchdowns (12, 43 and 59 yards) while Kaden Winkfield added an 8 yard TD run. Lamel Swanson had a 45-yard punt return TD. Jake Gillespie also had a long first-quarter punt return to set up the fourth score of the game.
Centennial and Ryan play each other Friday before Aledo meets Centennial on Oct. 13 and Ryan on Oct. 20.
