Aledo Shuts Out South Hills, 68-0

Aledo finished its five warm-up district games with a 68-0 victory over South Hills in Friday’s Homecoming game and clinched a playoff spot with three games left in the season.

In these first five District 3-5A games, Aledo has averaged more than 59 points per game, setting up the only two district games that matter. The Bearcats play Burleson Centennial next Friday and Denton Ryan on Oct. 21. Both of those games will be on the road.

Undefeated Centennial took a 23-16 victory over Denton Ryan on Friday, setting up a the next two weeks to determine the top three seeds in the district heading into the playoffs.

Ryan’s loss to Centennial loss snapped a 42-game district winning streak by Ryan. Aledo has not lost a district game in 15 years, but that streak will be challenged over the next two weeks. It’s worth noting that Ryan lost by one score even though starting running back Kalib Hicks has been injured for several weeks. The Raiders then lost starting quarterback Khalon Davis to a shoulder injury on the first series of the game.

In Friday’s victory, the Bearcats scored the first six times they had the ball and got a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jaden Allen to lead 48-0 at halftime.

Quarterback Hauss Hejny threw for a pair of touchdowns to opening the scoring. Both of his TD passes went to junior tight end Tyson Timms, the first from 7 yards out and the second covered 29 yards. In very limited action, Hejny threw for 104 yards. Aledo’s third touchdown was an 11 yard pass from Brant Hayden to Jalen Pope. Aledo also got touchdowns from Hawk Patrick-Daniels, Caleb Pope, Ryan Cox, Ryan Morton and Brett Turner.

Aledo’s first five district games have allowed the Bearcats to get injured players back heading into the two big road games coming up.

Despite their lopsided victories so far in District 3-5A DI, Professor Matt Diggs tweeted out last night that he expects the Bearcats to finish third in district.

For that to happen, Centennial or Ryan will have to put an end to Aledo’s state-record 108-game district winning streak.
