Patrick-Daniels leads Aledo over Azle

Aledo running back Hawk Patrick-Daniels scored on two of the first three times he carried the ball and finished with his best outing of the season to lead Aledo to a 55-20 District 3-5A victory over Azle.

Patrick-Daniels finished with 279 yards and three touchdowns, while freshman receiver Kaydon Finley had a pair of touchdown receptions in the game for the Bearcats. Patrick-Daniels has scored seven touchdowns in Aledo’s two district wins.

Aledo led 13-0 just 2:12 into the game on touchdown runs of 28 and 32 yards from Patrick Daniels. It looked like it might turn into a run away early, but penalties and turnovers kept the game close for much of the first half.

Azle got an 80-yard TD pass with 10:33 left in the second quarter to cut the Aledo lead to 13-7. Aledo responded with a 70-yard drive, capped by a 38-yard TD run by Patrick-Daniels to make it 20-7 with 8:20 left in the first half.

Aledo then scored twice in the final 2:03 of the first half to pull away from the Hornets. Finley had a 14-yard TD catch to make it 34-7 at the half.

Azle scored on its first drive of the second half to make it 34-14, but Finley’s 54-yard TD catch opened the lead to 41-14 with 5:10 left in the third quarter.

A Caleb Pope 1-yard TD run gave Aledo a 48-14 lead before Azle drove 70-yards to make it 48-20.

Aledo then used up most of the fourth quarter with an 18-play drive, capped by Pope’s second touchdown run.
