The Aledo Bearcats travelled to Stephenville, the top-ranked 4A team in the state, for their final scrimmage Thursday before opening the season next Friday at Parish Episcopal.
Aledo looked sharp on both sides of the ball in the non-timed portion of the scrimmage. The 1s and 2s combined to score eight touchdowns while shutting out the Yellowjackets in that part of the scrimmage.
Quarterback Hauss Hejny started for Aledo and was on target with his passes. During the timed portion of the scrimmage, Hejny completed 5-6 passes to 57 yards. He also completed several long TD passes in the first part of the scrimmage.
The Bearcats running game also moved the ball throughout the scrimmage.
Quarterback Brant Hayden played with the 2s during the scrimmage, but he also had a strong outing.
The timed part of the scrimmage consisted of two quarters of 12 minutes with a running clock.
Aledo started on offense in the timed portion, but fumbled the ball away on its fourth play. Stephenville used that turnover to take a 7-0 lead.
However, Aledo had 128 yards of total offense to 45 yards for Stephenville in that part of the scrimmage.
The Bearcats marched 85 yards to tied the game at 7-7. Then after stopping Stephenville, Aledo moved the ball down to a first and goal when the clock ran out in scrimmage.
