JV Orange quarterback Gatlin Johnson threw two TD passes, while running back Matt Tague ran for 1 TD and caught a 54-yard screen pass for another to lead the Bearcats to a 27-7 victory over Burleson Centennial Thursday at Bearcat Stadium.

After the Bearcat defense stopped Centennial on its first possession, Johnson capped a 44-yard drive by throwing a 29 yard TD pass to Jordan Thompson.

Teague capped a second quarter Aledo drive with a 4-yard TD to give the Bearcats a 13-0 lead with 3:55 left in the half.

Defensive back Eugene May had an interception to end Centennial’s next drive to keep the score 13-0 at halftime.

The Aledo offense needed very little time to pad the lead in the second half.

Tague had a long kickoff return and a penalty on Centennial tacked on 15 more yards, setting up Aledo at the Spartan 20. On the first offensive play, Elijah Valencia took a reverse 20 yards for the TD. Morgan Huhtanen PAT kick made it 20-0 with 9:43 left in the third quarter.

The Bearcat defense stopped the Spartans on a 4th-and-1 play at the Aledo 34.

A few plays later, Johnson found Tague for a 54-yard screen pass down the right sideline to give Aledo a 27-0 lead with 2:14 left in the thrid quarter.

The Spartans got a 2-yard TD run with 4:54 left in the game to keep from being shut out.

The JV Orange team improves to 2-0 on the season and will play Trinity next week at Bearcat stadium.
