Williams leads Aledo over Everman, 37-0

Junior running back Ryan Williams had a break out effort to lead Aledo to a 37-0 victory Friday at Everman. Williams rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown runs covered 62 and 18 yards as Aledo opened District 5-5A Division II play with a victory.

The Bearcats got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 16-0 lead in the first quarter, all before Everman managed to get a first down.

The Bulldogs went three-and-out in their first possession and Aledo took over at the Everman 41 after a punt into the wind. After Aledo’s drive stalled at the Everman 12, Clay Murador kicked a 30-yard field goal to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead with 8:32 left in the first quarter.

The Aledo defense came up with a fumble recovery at the Everman 25 by linebacker Sam Foreman.

On first down, tight end Jason Llewellyn caught a 25-yard TD pass from Brant Hayden. Llewellyn was wide open down the middle of the field then broke a tackle near the goal line to give Aledo a 10-0 lead with seven minutes left in the first quarter.

Everman managed just three yards on its third position, and Aledo took over at their own 48 and need nine plays to cover the 52-yards. Jo Jo Earle ran out of the wild cat formation from two yards out for the touchdown.

Aledo couldn’t get the PAT kick due to a bad snap on the play, leaving the score 16-0 with 15 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Bearcats added a TD late in the second quarter when Williams had back-to-back runs of 19 and 18 yards, the second was his first score in the game. The extra point made it 23-0 with 1:32 left in the first half.

Aledo needed just two plays to score on its first possession after the half.

Williams lost four yards on first down, but he went 62 yards to the house on second down to open Aledo’s lead to 30-0.

The Aledo defense pitched a shutout, thanks to solid play all night and an interception in the end zone by safety Elijah Valencia on Everman’s first possession of the second half.

The Aledo offense fumbled the ball away on their next two possessions as turnovers again hurt the young offense.

Aledo marched 94 yards on 12 plays early in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Hayden threw the ball to Earle on five straight plays to cover 56 of those yards. Senior running back Jeremiah James finished the drive with an 16-yard TD run.

The Bearcats improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in district.

Quarterback Brant Hayden completed 15 of 19 passes for 128 yards, and one touchdown on the windy evening in Everman.

The district opener was delayed by a week after Waco University had to postphone last week’s contest.

Aledo plays a home district game against Arlington Seguin on Friday.
