Aledo’s retooled offense made its debut in Thursday’s scrimmage, but the offense failed to reach the endzone during the timed quarter at the end of the scrimmage.
Starting at running back was senior Demarco Roberts, who was a starting cornerback on last year’s state championship team.
Roberts showed some speed and tough running throughout the scrimmage. Early in the scrimmage, Roberts had a 64-yard touchdown run.
The defense also looked sharp early in the scrimmage, coming up with a couple of pick-six interceptions.
The scrimmage ended with 10 minutes of live action, with the Aledo offense taking the field first.
The offense went three and out, losing six yards in those three plays. After a punt, North Forney took over near mid field. Unlike Aledo, North Forney has their quarterback and running back returning from last year. The Falcons quickly marched down to the Aledo 7-yardline behind some big runs. However, the Bearcat defense then came up with a pair of sacks and forced the Falcons to turn the ball over on downs.
The second time Aledo had the ball, the Bearcats moved the ball from the 9 out to the 40 with some good running from Roberts. However, on third-and-four from the 40, North Forney came up with an interception.
The Aledo regular season kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 26, against Parker County rival Weatherford. The game will be played at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
