Ryan Williams rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries as Aledo defeated Arlington Seguin 55-21 Friday night at Wilemon Field in Arlington.
Williams injured his MCL earlier in this season, but continues to bounce back.
“I feel great… I am just starting back with that brace I have on. I am getting comfortable with it and hoping I can start playing without it,” he said. “I feel like I am at 95 percent and should be 100 percent going into the playoffs. I am just going to keep sharpening my tools and I will be good.”
The Bearcats running game continues to prove how much depth matters.
Sammy Steffe ran for three touchdowns on just three carries.
Aledo Head Coach Tim Buchanan credits the offensive success to the offensive line.
“When you have an offensive line like we do, you’re five yards down field before you have to make somebody miss you,” Buchanan said. “It is good to play running back behind an offensive line like we’ve got. Not to take anything away from our running backs, they are good players. The offensive line did a great job at blocking tonight.”
Aledo started on offense midway in the first quarter, after Arlington Seguin sustained a lengthy drive.
The Bearcats needed just four plays to open the scoring, thanks to a 14 yard Jalen Pope touchdown reception thrown by Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi.
Aledo then got the ball back quickly and scored after four plays– again.
Running back Ryan Williams scored on a six yard scamper, his first of two touchdowns in the first half.
Williams later scored on a two-yard run with 1:09 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bearcats capped off a two play scoring drive on a 59 yard Sammy Steffe touchdown run.
Arlington Seguin then got it’s only points of the half on a 46 yard run.
The Seguin Cougars had some success on the ground, but couldn’t capitalize on key third and fourth downs to make the game any closer.
The last scoring play of the first half was a 33 yard Clay Murador field goal that put Aledo ahead 31-7.
Fowler-Nicolosi played the entire first half and into the third quarter, and Ryan Williams received the bulk of the carries.
Buchanan said that Fowler-Nicolosi has fully recovered from his earlier injury and was able to get solid reps at quarterback against Seguin.
“We are trying to get as many reps as we can with him, tonight they did a good job of covering against him,” Buchanan said. “He had to throw the ball in some tight windows. He did a good job.”
In the second half, Aledo scored twice on the ground, on a 76 yard Steffe return and on a 30 yard Jace Sims field goal attempt.
The Bearcats will be the No. 1 seed in bi-district and have captured another district championship.
Next Friday is senior night at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo.
Aledo (9-0, 6-0) will take on Cleburne (4-5, 2-4) to close out the regular season.
Cleburne fell to Mansfield Timberview 56-15 Friday.
