Ladycats sweep Waco Midway to open season

The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 sweep of Waco Midway Tuesday at Aledo High School.

Aledo, the top-ranked 5A team in the state, was led by hitters Daleigh Ellison, Hannah Jones and Evelyn Torres.

The Ladycats made short work of Midway in the 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 victory.

Aledo jumped out to a 22-10 lead in the opening game but game two saw the Lady Lions jump out the the early lead. Midway led by as many as 4 points, 16-12, before the Lady Cats rallied to tie the score at 18. Aledo then scored the next 5 points to lead 23-18.

Game three was all Aledo. The Lady Cats opened the final game with a 10-3 run sparked by three aces from Torres. Aledo built the lead to 22-12 before finishing off the season-opening sweep.

Aledo will play in the Nike tournament this weekend, before returning home next Tuesday to face Weatherford.

 

 

The sub-varsity teams also sweep their season openers.

The junior varsity team had a 2-0 sweep with scores of 25-20, 25-15.
