Strawn Greyhouds race past Richland Springs, 100-54

Freshman Grayson Rigdon had eight rushing TDs and an interception as the Strawn Greyhounds jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never trailed in their 100-54 Class 1A Division II six-man state semifinal victory over Richland Springs Friday in Dublin.

The Strawn victory avenged last year’s 59-56 semifinal loss to the Coyotes last season.

Strawn (14-0) will play motley County at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington in the 1A Division II State Championship game.

Grayson Rigdon scored Strawn’s first six touchdowns on runs of 34, 5, 2, 33, 72 and 34 yards. He finished the game with 351 rushing yards. His interception came on Richland Springs’ first offensive play and allowed Strawn to get a quick 14-0 lead.

Lorenzo Garcia had a 1-yard TD run to push Strawn’s lead to 52-34 at halftime.

A huge third quarter by the Strawn defense allowed the Greyhounds to push the lead to 72-34. The defense stopped Richland Springs on its first three possession in the second half. Strawn even got a defensive score in the third quarter when Payton Harris scooped up fumble and returned it 11 yards for a score.

Strawn’s Jesse Corona caused the fumble with his hit on Richland Springs quarterback Brandon Stewart.

Griff Rigdon scored three rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter for Strawn.
