Taylor McKean pitched a perfect game, striking out 14 of 15 batters faced, to lead the Aledo Ladycats to a 15-0 bi-district victory over Trimble Tech.
McKean struck out the first 12 batters she faced. The only time Aledo’s good defensive squad had to make a play was when second baseman Delaney Rosser caught a soft line drive to open the fifth inning.
Even though Aledo run-ruled Trimble Tech, it was much closer than it could have been.
The Ladycats scored 15 runs on 17 hits. All 15 runs came home in the first and second innings. It was 15-0 with one out in the bottom of the second inning. Every Aledo batter from that point on laid down a bunt. Six of those bunts became infield singles, however the Aledo baserunners intentionally took off running early (before the pitcher released the ball) and were called out.
Aledo certainly didn’t need to score any additional runs with McKean dominating on the mound. McKean helped her own cause with four RBI, all in the first inning. McKean had 3-run triple in her first at-bat, then walked with the bases loaded later in the first to get her fourth RBI.
Aledo scored 11 runs in the first inning. Addie Perry had a 2-run single. Presley Hull had two hits in the inning, a single and an RBI double. Ana Flores had an RBI and a pair of singles in the first inning.
Aledo added four runs in the second. Clare Byars’s 2-run triple and Texas Ray’s RBI double were the big hits in the second inning.
Aledo advances to the area round of the playoffs. The Ladycats will face the winner of the Richland vs. Burleson three-game series, which starts Friday. Richland, 14-10-2, finished third in District 7. Burleson, 16-10, finished second in District 8.
