Aledo Rolls Over Waco University, 66-0

Aledo quarterback Jack Bishop had more touchdown passes (3) than Waco University had first downs (2) as the No. 1 ranked Bearcats rolled to a 66-0 victory over the Trojans Friday at Bearcat Stadium.

Bishop played less than two quarters but completed 10 of 13 passes for 113 yards. He had two TD passes to Jo Jo Earl (8 and 21 yards), while Mylen Hayhurst had TD receptions of 4 and 34 yards.

The win raises the Bearcats’ overall record to 8-0, and 6-0 in 5-5A.

The Aledo defense held University to a three and out to start the game and a bad snap on the punt didn’t allow the University punter to get a kick off and the Bearcats took over on the University 25.

With Aledo starting tailback Jase McClellan held out to because of a slight injury, the Bearcats got a 25-yard TD run from Avery Jackson to open the scoring on Aledo’s second offensive play of the game. Jackson and Tre Owens alternated series at running back in the first half.

On Aledo’s next possession, the Bearcats used four plays to cover 56 yards to make it 14-0.

Quarterback Jake Bishop ran 17 yards to the University 18.   He then threw a short pass to receiver Jo Jo Earle, who fought his way into the end zone. (See the photo above)

On Aledo’s third drive, the Bearcats settled for 23-yard field goal by Harper Smith to make it 17-0  with 1:08 remaining in the first quarter.

The Bearcats then blew the game open by scoring 35 points in the second quarter.

First came a 4-yard pass from Bishop to Mylen Hayhurt to make it 24-0. Bishop complete three straight passes in the drive.

On Aledo’s next drive, Hampton Fay came in at quarterback and engineered a 7-play drive that ended with a 34-yard TD pass to Hayhurst.

University’s next possession ended on a fumble on the first play that was recovered by Colt Ellison at the 21. Bishop came back in at quarterback to toss a 21-yard TD pass to Earle to make it 38-0 with 6:21 left in the half.

The Bearcats also got scoring from their defense and special teams, which scored the final two touchdowns in the first half.

A high snap on a punt of University’s next possession rolled into the endzone and Jake Ford beat the University punter to the ball to get the TD for Aledo.

On the second play of University’s next possession, cornerback Demarco Roberts returned an interception 54 yards for a score.

Ryan Anderson played running back during the second half and had scoring runs of 1 and 4 yards.  Anderson led the team in rushing with 71 yards.
