In a showdown for first place in District 4-5A Wichita Falls Rider came into Aledo and took a 3 games to 2 victory over the Ladycats, 18-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-14, 15-11.
The Raiders improve to 2-0 in district play, while the Ladycats fall to 2-1. Both teams are also ranked in the Top 10 of Class 5A volleyball teams. Aledo won more points (103-97), but it’s Rider that climbs into sole possession of first place in the district.
In a match in which each team looked dominate at times, it was Rider that came up with the key run in the fifth game to get the victory. With the fifth game tied at 6-6, Rider went on a 3-0 run to take the lead for good.
The Ladycats cut the Rider lead to 11-10, Rider closed out the match with a 4-1 run.
The Ladycats started the match out quickly, winning game one 25-18. But Rider came right back in game two. With game two tied at 19-19, Rider broke Aledo’s serve with a dink over the blockers. The Lady Raiders took advantage and scored three straight points to take command.
Rider took game three to take a 2 games to 1 lead, but Aledo look dominate in game four. After Rider opened a 2-0 lead, the Ladycats outscored Rider 25-12 to set up the fifth game.
