Aledo Rallies Past Denton Guyer, 48-45

ENTON – The Aledo offense put up 48 points and 531 yards against 6A powerhouse Denton Guyer, but still needed a last-second 20-yard field goal to take a 48-45 road victory. The kick earned place kick Cole Crawford a ride off the field on his teammate’s shoulders.

Aledo needed big plays all night long as the two offenses exchanged touchdowns over the final three quarters.

Neither team scored in the opening quarter, but the final three quarters were an offensive showcase.

Raycine Guillory rushed 29 times for 137 yards and four touchdowns, while quarterback Hauss Hejny completed 15 of 20 passes for 252 yards, including a 42-yard pass to Hawk Patrick-Daniels that opened the scoring. Hejny was just as deadly with his legs, rushing 12 times for 135 yards.

On a night when the Bearcats needed every single point, Hejny ran the swinging gate formation to perfection on two extra points. He ran the first one in for a two point conversion, then passed to Tyson Timms for another.

Aledo also got a 2-yard TD run from Devon Keys. Keys also give Aledo another two points when he returned a blocked Guyer extra point kick.

Penalties were again a problem for the Bearcats as they were flagged 11 time for 93 yards, which often put the offense behind the chains. Receivers Patrick-Daniels and Trace Clarkston made impressive long receptions to keep drives alive.

After getting outscored 20-8 in the third quarter, the Bearcats were desperate for a stop early in the fourth quarter. A penalty put Guyer behind the chains after the Wildcats had driven to Aledo’s 40, but a third-down sack by Keys forced Guyer to punt.

After Aledo scored to make it 45-37 with 4:23 left to play in the game, Guyer needed just one play to tie the game at 45-45 when Guyer Quarterback Logan McLaughlin threw a 64-yard TD pass to Corbin Glasco and then threw a two-point conversion pass.

However, the Aledo offense then kept the ball the remainder of the game and drove the length of the field to set up Crawford’s heroics.

Aledo starts District 3 5A DI play next week when it hosts 2-0 Northwest on Friday. Northwest had a 31-28 victory over McKinney North on Friday.
