The Richland Royals use good defense and timely hitting to take a 6-2 victory over the Aledo Ladycats to sweep the 5A Area Round playoff series Friday at home.
Aledo’s long-run of playoff success came to an early end in the second-round series. The Ladycats, who showcased good defense and great pitching during the regular season, had shaky defense and inconsistence pitching against Richland.
Richland’s Jacey Lees got the complete game victory for the second consecutive game against Aledo. Lees limited Aledo to just four hits and no walks. Lees did not walk a batter in either playoff game against Aledo.
The Ladycat’s Brenlee Gonzales took the loss, giving up seven hits, five walks and five earned runs. Two of the walks came back-to-back in the bottom of the third inning to force in the game’s first run.
Aledo rallied to take a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning. Gonzales had an RBI single and Nathalie Touchet had a sacrifice fly in the inning.
Richland roared back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Royals got two walks and four singles in the inning. Aledo also had two of their four errors in the inning.
