AZLE – The Aledo Ladycats pounded out 17 hits in Tuesday’s 17-1 District 5-5A victory against Azle and Brenlee Gonzales pitched a complete game 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Gonzales had a no-hitter going though the first five innings before Azle managed three hits and a run in the final two innings. The Lady Hornets did not score until Aledo had opened up a 17-0 lead.
Addie Perry, Delandy Rosser and Reagan Davis each had a pair of RBI in the game. Clair Byars, Rosser and Ana Flores each scored three runs. Rosser and Flores each had three hits.
Aledo scored two runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth before blowing the game open with eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Ladycats scored three or more runs against the three Azle pitchers who threw in the game. In addition to their 17 hits, Aledo also drew 10 walks.
In addition to the offense and pitching, Aledo also had stellar defense in the game. One defensive highlight was second baseman Rosser making a diving stop (see the photo above) then tossing the ball to shortstop Ana Flores for a force out.
Aledo improves to 17-4-1 on the season. The Ladycats are in first place in district at 5-0. In their five district wins, Also has outscored opponents 65-2. Aldo will host Granbury at home on Friday.
