Aledo (1-2, 1-0 in District 3-5A Division I) opened district play by scoring on its first six offensive possessions in Thursday’s 49-20 win at Northwest.
While the offense was having its most productive game of the season, the Bearcat defense came up with three Northwest fumbles in the first quarter. Aledo turned all of the turnovers into touchdowns.
Aledo running back Hawk Patrick-Daniels had four touchdown runs in the first half. He finished the game with 17 carries for 150 yards. Quarterback Hauss Hejny completed 10 of 14 passes for 139 yards, including a 30-yard TD pass to Jalen Pope. Pope had six receptions for 90 yards in the game.
It was Aledo’s 104th consecutive district victory as the Bearcats got off to a 1-0 district start. Aledo will play Azle at home next Friday as they look to start a winning streak.
The skill position starters only played one series in the second half after jumping out to a 42-7 lead at the half.
Aledo won the coin flip and took the opening possession marched 61 yards on nine plays to take a 7-0 lead with 7:48 left in the first half. Patrick-Daniels scored his first TD on a 1-yard run to open the scoring. However, Hejny completed passes of 22 yards and 15 yards in the drive. The quarterback also had a 13-yard run in the opening drive. Hejny had added 43 rushing yards on four attempts in the game.
The Bearcats got the ball right back when Jaden Allen knocked the ball lose on the tackle of the kick return and Cayden Hix recovered. Patrick-Daniels carried the ball twice to complete the 16-yard drive with his second touchdown.
On Northwest’s first offense play of the game, Aledo recovered a Texan fumble at the 30-yard line. Hejny hit a wide open Pope in stride for a 30-yard TD for Aledo’s 1-play TD drive. With 6:51 left in the first quarter it was 21-0 Aledo.
Northwest had to punt on its next posession and Aledo took over at its own 17. It took the Bearcats just five plays to cover the 83 yards to make it 28-0. Patrick-Daniels got his third touchdown with a 54-yard run.
On the first play of Northwest’s next possession, the Aledo came up with another fumble recovery. Backup quarterback Brant Hayden 8-yard pass to Tyson Timms on the first play of the second quarter made it 35-0.
On Aledo’s sixth possession of the first half, Patrick-Daniels had a 31-yard turn and completed the 78-yard drive with his fourth TD of the night to make it 42-0.
