The Ladycats pounded out 13 hits, including eight doubles, to take Game 1 of the second-round playoff series 11-1 in Friday afternoon’s game at Aledo.
Texas Ray pounded out three of those doubles. Presley Hull had two doubles and 4 RBI while Allison Mallard, Claire Byars and Marissa Powell also had doubles for the Ladycats. Powell’s bases-loaded double in the bottom of the fifth gave Aledo the 10-run lead it needed to end the game early and let team members leave to get ready for prom.
The Ladycats have run-ruled their opponents in all three playoff games, however Legacy scored one run in the top of the first inning without the aid of a hit to put Aledo in its first deficit of the post season.
Natalie Touchet got the complete game victory with four strikeouts, giving up five hits in five innings. However, the Broncos took advantage of some wildness by Touchet in the first inning to score the first run.
Legacy used a walk, a pair of wild pitches and a fielder’s choice ground out to take the 1-0 lead. It didn’t last long.
In the bottom of the first, the first four batters all reached base and scored.
Macy Graf used her speed to score Aledo’s first run. Graf walked, stole second and third, then scored on a wild pitch. Graf had two bunt singles, three stolen bases and scored twice in the game.
Ray had the first of her doubles, a shot down the third base line, to drive in Aledo’s next run. Hull also had the first of her RBIs and doubles in the first inning. Mallard also had an RBI single in the inning.
Aledo also showed off its defense in the game. The defense kept a second run from scoring in the fifth inning with a good defense from three players. Rightfielder Maddie Jarvis fielded a single and threw home to catcher Mallard, trapping Legacy’s runner between third and home. Mallard threw the ball to third baseman Madysen Boutwell, who then threw back to Mallard to get the out.
Legacy falls to 22-8 on the season, while Aledo improves to 28-2 heading into Saturday’s game two of the Area Playoff Series. Game two will start at 11 a.m. at Mansfield Legacy High School. A third game, if needed, will be played 30 minutes after the end of game two.
