Bearcats Edge Chisholm Trail, Improve to 7-1

The Aledo basketball team improved to 7-1 on the season with a 43-37 victory at Chisholm Trail on Saturday.

The Bearcats rallied from behind in the fourth quarter to pick up the victory.

Chisholm Trail took a 29-27 lead early in the fourth quarter on a fast break layup. The teams traded the lead several times in the fourth quarter.

Camden Yielding hit a shot to give the Bearcats a 35-34 lead with about three minutes left in the game, then Landry Simmons drained a three-pointer to make it 38-34 with 2:38 to play.

Daniel Sohn then made a diving layup with 1:30 to play to increase Aledo’s lead to 40-34.

After the Rangers hit a three-pointer to trim the Aledo lead to 40-37, Yielding got an offensive rebound and made one of two free throws with 21 seconds to play. Simmons then iced the game with a pair of free throws with six seconds to play.

Aledo used its three-point shooting to lead for the entire first half. Simmons and Yielding hit three point shots to give Aledo an early 10-4 lead. Sohn hit a three-pointer early in the second quarter to make it 13-6, then Yielding hit a pair of long shots to give Aledo a 19-8 lead.

The Bearcats led 19-12 at halftime, but Chisholm switched to a zone defense that they used to take away the open looks the Bearcats were getting on the three point shots.

Chisholm Trail outscored Aledo 12-6 in the third quarter, cutting the Bearcat’s lead to 25-24, setting the stage for Aledo’s fourth-quarter surge.
