The Aledo Bearcat boys basketball team jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never trailed in the game as they took a 68-54 win over Tyler John Tyler in Friday’s season-opening game.

Daniel Sohn scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter. Cam Yielding, who hit four three-pointers in the game, finished with 16 points and Landry Simmons added 15.

Aledo led 14-7 after one quarter and 32-19 at the half. The lead was as large as 15 points in the second quarter.

However the Lions came out in the second half by playing an aggressive full-count, man defense and cut into the lead with a 7-1 run to open the third quarter. Aledo also got into foul trouble in the third quarter and the Lions were in to bonus with 2:10 left in the third.

The Bearcats also struggled at the free-throw line through the first three quarters and finished the night hitting 14 of 27. John Tyler cut the lead to as little as five points and Sohn fouled out with 4:23 left in the game.

However, Simmons scored seven of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to help Aledo push the lead back out to double digits.
