The Aledo Bearcat football team outscored Byron Nelson Friday morning in the final scrimmage of the 2018 season.
The teams played several timed periods of play to open the scrimmage with each offense getting the ball at the 30 to try and move against the other team’s defense.
The Aledo offense scored on their first two drives during this part of the scrimmage. Quarterback Jake Bishop had a long run to set up the first score then threw for a TD pass for the second TD.
Aledo’s defense gave up one TD on a long pass during this part of the scrimmage, then came up with a goal line stand to stop another Byron Nelson scoring threat.
The two team finished the scrimmage with a 15-minute session that featured more game-like conditions.
Aledo had the ball first in this period and a long run from Jase McClellan allowed the Bearcats to drive 70 yards for the score with McClellan finishing the drive when he ran untouched for a 5-yard score.
The Aledo defense then stopped Byron Nelson on a 3-and-out. In fact, Bobcats were limited to just five offensive plays during this part of the scrimmage.
Byron Nelson is a team that is picked to make the playoffs out of District 5-6A. The Bobcats return 7 defensive and 5 offensive players from a team that made the playoffs last year. Aledo will be in District 5-5A Division II this year.
The Bearcats will play their first game Friday at Denton Guyer at Collins Stadium in Denton. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
