The Bearcat defense came up with three turnovers and a shut out in Friday’s 63-0 victory over the MX Dragons.
The team from Mexico was no match for Aledo’s offense or defense. In fact, Aledo led 42-0 in the second quarter before the Dragons got a first down.
Almost the entire first quarter was played on the Dragon’s end of the field. It was 35-0 at the end of the first quarter and 56-0 at halftime. The first string players were on the bench before halftime.
While the defensive effort was a huge improvement from Aledo’s opening week loss to Guyer, the offense continued to roll up points. While the Bearcats scored eight touchdowns in the loss to Guyer, it took just the first half to score eight touchdowns against the Dragons.
Quarterback Jake Bishop threw for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns, while Matt Tague ran for three touchdowns.
Aledo got a first-half interceptions from B.J. Allen and Nathen Fingar, while defensive end Jason Llewellyn’s fumble recovery at the Dragon’s two set up Aledo’s second-half touchdown.
Tague capped Aledo’s first drive with a 1-yard TD run.
After’s Allen’s interception gave the Bearcats the ball right back, it took just three plays to find the endzone. Bishop hit Money Parks for a 43-yard score to make it 14-0.
Tague had an 11-yard run to make it 21-0.
Aledo’s fourth score was a 22-yard pass from Bishop to Jo Jo Earle. Earle also had several long punt returns in the opening half to give the Bearcats offense great field position.
Tague then completed a shot TD drive with a 1-yard run to make it 35-0, still in the first quarter.
Bishop hit Jaedon Pellegrino for a 58-yard TD to make it 42-0.
