The Bearcats scored 57 points and still lost their first home game since 2014 in Friday’s 60-57 loss to Denton Guyer.
Many people expected a shootout in the matchup of 5A top-ranked Aledo and 6A Top 10 Guyer and it only took two plays for the track meet to start.
Guyer quarterback Eli Stowers threw a 52-yard touchdown pass on the Wildcat’s second offensive play and Guyer
The Aledo offense looked even more potent that last year’s state championship team. Jase McClellan rushed for 126 yards and scored four touchdowns. Jo Jo Earle had 11 receptions for 117 yards and scored a touchdown with a run out of the wildcat formation. Jake Bishop completed 22 of 28 passes for 312 yards and Money Parks made his Aledo return with a 45-yard TD reception on Aledo’s first possession of the game.
With all of the offense, it was six plays that don’t count in the offensive statistics that made the difference for Guyer. It was the six converted two-point conversions.
Each team scored eight touchdowns, but Guyer converted two point conversions on their first two touchdowns and the Bearcats seemed to be chasing points the rest of the night. Guyer tried kicking extra points twice, and both times Aledo blocked the attempt.
