Bearcats Look Crisp in Scrimmage at Byron Nelson

The Aledo football team wrapped up pre-season practice with the first-string offense scoring four times and the defense scoring once in Friday’s scrimmage at Byron Nelson High School.

The defending 5A Division II State Champion Bearcats will open the 2019 by hosting Class 6A No. 8 Denton Guyer at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Against the Bobcats, quarterback Jake Bishop tossed long TD passes on three consecutive plays in the controlled part of the scrimmage.

The Aledo offense moved the ball well in the first controlled part of the scrimmage but didn’t score. The second time the first-string offense took the field it was a different story.

The first score was a screen pass to Jase McClellan that went for a TD. The next play Bishop hit Money Parks in stride over the middle for a 70 yard TD. Parks has returned to Aledo for his senior season after playing at Fort Worth All Saints last season.

On the third TD during that stretch, Bishop hit Jo Jo Earle who weaved his way through the defense for another 70-yard score.

The teams finished the scrimmage with 15 minutes of live football action, with Aledo outscoring Nelson 10-0 during that time. Aledo offense had a six-play 70-yard drive with McClellan scoring on a 12-yard run.

Morgan Huhtanen added a 36-yard field goal to complete Aledo’s scoring.

Aledo also got a score from the second offense with a short run by Matt Tague.
