Revised Bearcat Football Schedule Features Pool Play

District 5-5A Division II coaches have put together a unique format for the schedule this year by splitting the district into two pools.

In one pool is Aledo, Waco University, Everman and Arlington Seguin. In the other pool is Mansfield Timberview, Joshua, Cleburne and Burleson.

Aledo’s schedule currently only has seven games. They will play Weatherford and Frisco Lone Star in non-district action.

They will then play the other teams from their zone in district play (Waco University, Everman and Arlington Seguin). Then on Nov. 6 there will be zone playoff games against teams from the opposite pool.

The two first place teams from each pool will play each other on Nov. 6, and the second place teams in each pool will play the third place teams from the opposite pool.

The thinking here is that if the season had to be paused late in the season, the playoff seeds from the district could be decided by the Nov. 6 pool playoff games.

If the season does not get shortened, the coaches will get together at this point to determine the rest of the district schedule.

It has been a very strange year, so it only makes sense that the district football schedule will be strange this year as well.
