The mistake prone Aledo Bearcats fell to Denton Guyer 44-14 to fall to 0-2 on the season, the first time since 1991 Aledo has lost its first two games to start the season.
The good news is both losses are in non-district and the Bearcats may have found a running back with the ability to gain yards in chunks.
Aledo junior Hawk Patrick-Daniels finished with 133 yards on 24 carries to average more than 5 yards per carry against the state’s sixth-ranked 6A team. Patrick-Daniels had several long runs in the game. It was his first game at running back since the eighth grade and he averaged more than 5 yards per carry against Denton Guyer.
While the Aledo defense gave up 44 points to Guyer, it held the Wildcat rushing attack to 71 yards in the game. The 44-14 loss leaves Aldo fans with a bad taste, but Rockwall Heath lost to Guyer 47-14 in week 1 then came out in week two and defeated Trinity 68-38.
Aledo twice gave Guyer a short field in the first half when the snap went over the punter’s head and gave the Wildcats the ball. Both of those mistakes were converted into touchdowns by Guyer. Aledo also lost a fumble in the first half.
Guyer led 10-7 when Aledo gave the Wildcats the ball at the Aledo 18. One play later it was 17-7. On Aledo’s very next possession, Guyer got the ball back at the Aledo 10. Two plays later it was 24-7.
The Bearcats have a short week to prepare for their district opener at 7 p.m. Thursday at 1-1 Northwest. The Texans lost to McKinney North 47-39 Friday while giving up 391 rushing yards.
