Ladycats sweep Paschal

The Aledo Ladycats opened the home portion of the 2021 season with a sweep of Paschal, 25-18, 25-10, 25-11, on Tuesday.

The Ladycats only trailed once in the first set, and that was when they lost of first point to face a 1-0 deficit. The Ladycats then ripped off a 6-0 run with senior setter Mattie Gantt serving. Paschal was never able to score more than two consecutive points the rest of the the first set and were never able to get closer than three points the rest of the way.

Gantt finished out the first set with a dump to give the Ladycats the first set.

Gantt finished the match with 27 assists and 7 kills. Aledo never trailed in the second or third sets.

The Ladycats jumped out to big leads in the second and third sets as they kept Paschal from making a comeback.

Aledo led 9-1 in the second set as junior middle hitter Maddie Frank had several kills in the quick start. Frank led the team with 10 kills in the match. Sophomore Vivian Parker, junior Payton Hilmar and Gantt each had 7 kills. Senior Skylar Ellison added 5 kills.

A kill by Ellison finished out the second set.

Gantt was serving to start the third set an help the Ladycats jump out to a 6-0 lead. Frank had several kills the the quick start to the third set.

After Paschal cut the lead to 8-3. Mia Little was serving on a 5-0 Aledo run to help the Ladycats put the lead to double digits, 13-3.

Aledo, 2-4, will play in the Northwest tournament this weekend, then have a home match against Joshua next Tuesday.
