Ladycats sweep Abilene Wylie in district opener

The Ladycat volleyball team opened district 4-5A play with a sweep of Abilene Wylie Friday at Bearcat gym.

Aledo won 25-13, 25-16, 25-23.

In the first game, Aledo went on an 8-0 run after the teams traded points early in the match. The run extended an 8-6 lead to 16-6. The run came as senior Sarah Morehead was serving. Junior Evelyn Torres had several kills during the run.

After that big run the Lady Bulldogs could not close the gap to less than nine points the rest of the game.

In the second game, Aledo scored the first two points and never trailed. Torres had two aces during a 4-0 run that help the Ladycats open a 6-1 lead. Aledo pushed the score to 20-10 before winning game two 25-16.

Aledo opened a big lead 20-14, in game three as well, only see the Lady Bulldogs fight back to take the lead.

Wylie came all the way back to tie the score at 23-23. Torres broke the tie with a cross court kill then got the winning points on the next serve.

Aledo (20-13, 1-0) will continue district play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wichita Falls High School.
