Aledo freshman pitcher Tempe Perry tossed a complete game 4-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the Ladycats 11-2 district victory over Fossil Ridge Friday. Perry also hit a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Aledo had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run single by Breleigh Mayer before a double-play in the bottom of the second kept the Panthers from tying the game. Three of the first four batters in the bottom of the second reach base against Perry, including an RBI double that cut the lead to 2-1 with runners at second and third with one out. However, Aledo then turned a second-to-first-to-third-to-shortstop double-play to get out of the inning.
The big double play and Aledo’s offense exploding for nine runs over the next two innings allowed Perry to get into a groove in the circle.
Aledo had 12 hits in the game, including six for extra bases. Besides Perry’s home run, Marina Taveras hit a ball off the wall in right-center that went for an inside-the-park home run. Perry’s older sister, Addie, and Jordyn Edington each had triples. Freshman first baseman Brooklyn Taloa and catcher Kayleigh Martin each had doubles.
Taveras led the team with 3 RBI, while Taloa, Tempe Perry and Mayer each had two RBI.
The Ladycats improved to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in district.
