Ladycats Open Tournament with Blowout Win

The Ladycats opened their own tournament Thursday afternoon with a 50-28 blowout over the Nolan Catholic Lady Vikings.

Three players were in double figures for Aledo, led by senior Elizabeth Allanach with 14 points. Juniors Riley Sale, 12, and Haley Herrin, 11, were also in double figures.

The tournament continues with pool play Friday and the Ladycats will play Arlington Sam Houston at 10:30 a.m. and Lake Country Christian School at 3 p.m.

The Ladycats came out Thursday on fire as they opened a 16-3 lead. Aledo had a 16-7 lead after the first quarter. However, Nolan came storming back in the second quarter when the Lady Vikings help Aledo to just three points to cut the lead to 22-17 at halftime.

But the second half belonged to Aledo, as the Ladycats outscored Nolan 28-11 over the final two quarters.

Aledo improves to 10-7 with the win.

The game also shows just how far the young team has come in the opening weeks of the season. Two weeks ago Nolan took a 37-35 win over Aledo. The Ladycats have defeated Nolan twice this week, by scores of 38-23 and 50-28.
