Ladycats open tournament with 8-0 win

The Aledo Ladycats soccer team scored four goals in a span of less than seven minutes late in the first half of Thursday’s 8-0 victory over El Paso Montwood to open the Moritz Kia Tournament of Champions play Thursday at Bearcat Stadium.

Freshman Ashley Laughley and seniors Megan Crawford and Brooke Jones each scored two goals to lead the Ladycats.

Aledo opened in the scoring when Crawford found the back of the net at the 29:45 mark of the first half. The Ladycats scored five goals in the first half and kept possession of the ball for more than 70 percent of the game.

Jones scored her first goal at the 15:10 mark to make it 2-0, while Laughley scored her first goal at 12:37 to make it 3-0. Riley Sanders scored for the Ladycats with just under 10 minutes left in the first half to make it 4-0.

Jones got her second goal with 7:31 left in the first half to give the Ladycats a 5-0 lead.

Crawford got her second goal with 32:50 left in the second half to make it 6-0.

Laughley’s second goal came at the 29:30 mark of the second half to make it 7-0.

Grace Ornelas closed out the scoring when she knocked home a nifty pass across the net from D’Angelah Allen.

The Ladycats will continue tournament play at noon Friday with a game against the winner of the Paschal vs. South Hills match.
