Haley Herrin scored six of her game-high 10 points in the fourth quarter on a pair of three-pointers to help the Ladycats open a 10-point lead en route to a 50-45 District 4-5A victory over Abilene Cooper.
Herrin’s second three pointer of the fourth quarter opened the Aledo lead to 48-39 with 2:57 left in the game. A free throw gave the Ladycats a 49-39 lead with 2:12 to play before Cooper mounted a late rally.
It was the district opening game for both teams.
Riley Sale scored five of her nine points in the third quarter. Audrey Pierce and Addyson Hebel each scored eight points in the balanced offensive attack. Also scoring were Kalen Antonio with six, Kylie Anderson with five and Raylee McDonald with four points.
Cooper took a 13-8 lead after the first quarter as Aledo got into foul trouble early. Cooper was in the bonus in the first quarter and double bonus early in the second quarter.
However, Aledo began to solve the Cooper three-quarter court press and outscored the Lady Cougars 17-7 in the second quarter for a 25-20 halftime lead. Hebel had six points in the second quarter and Pearce scored five points in that quarter.
