Midlothian Heritage got an early goal and made it stand up for a 1-0 victory over the Ladycats, handing Aledo its first loss of the season.
The Lady Cougars got the goal just two minutes and 10 seconds into the game when they got a long ball on a counter attack go over the defenders and the Heritage forward was able to run the ball down and rip it into the net.
After falling behind, the Ladycats dominated possession of the ball but could not get a goal to earn a tie.
Aledo’s extended offensive pressure earned the Ladycats four corner kicks in the first half and seven in the game.
The best scoring chance off of the corner kicks came late in the game when Hunter Jones outjumped the Heritage defense to head a corner kick, but the ball went harmlessly over the goal.
The Ladycats fall to 8-1-3 with the loss to Heritage, the state’s second-ranked team in Class 4A.
Aledo will be back in action at 5 p.m. Friday with a game at Mineral Wells.
