Haltom holds off Aledo, 61-58, In Overtime

Haltom’s Kuol Atak scored six of his 16 points in overtime as Haltom held off Aledo 61-58 Tuesday at home in a non-district basketball game.

Aledo was led by Daniel Sohn’s 21 points, but he fouled out with 1:38 left in overtime with the teams tied at 54-54. Atak hit the two free-throws then added another short jumper to give Haltom the lead for good.

Aledo jumped out to a 18-13 lead after the first quarter as Camden Yielding came off the bench to score nine of his 20 points in the first quarter. All of this points in the quarter came on three pointers. The Bearcats also had two fast break dunks in the first quarter.

Haltom used it size to get second-chance points and get into the bonus to cut Aledo’s lead to 27-26 at halftime. Haltom’s Tomorion Criff scored all five of his points in the second quarter as he hit five-of-six free throws.

Haltom opened up the third quarter on a 9-3 run to take the lead. Jeremy Snow hit a pair of three-pointers and Marlon Carrington had three free throws during the run. Carrington also scored 16 points for Haltom before fouling out. Snow finished with nine points.

Sohn scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half as he helped rally Aledo to force overtime.
