Gordon Wins Third Straight 1A Division I State Championship

The Longhorns were dominant in their 69-22 victory over Rankin, earning a discussion about whether this is the best six-man football team of all time.

But the press conference talk after the game also reminded people that the football team helped the community recover from the tornado that went through the town in May and damaged the high school and took out of the of athletic facilities, including the football field.

The football field was rebuilt, but Gordon only got to play a home game about a month ago.

Most of the town was on hand Wednesday at AT&T Stadium as the Longhorns jumped out to a 24-0 lead before Rankin got a first down.

Gordon was so dominate that it needed just 16 offensive plays to score 69 points. Rankin ran 47 offensive plays, but Gordon’s defense often held the Red Devils to short yardage.

Gordon had nine offensive possessions and five were 1-play touchdown drives. Two drives lasted two plays, and the Longhorns had one three-play TD drive and one 4-play drive.

Gordon’s Stryker Reed was named the game’s offensive player of the game. Reed had 160 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the game, including the 44-yard run with 6:48 left in the third quarter to end the game with the mercy rule.

The Longhorn’s Brayden Walters was named defensive player of the game. Walters had an interception and four tackles and seven assists in the game.

Gordon has won 44 consecutive games, the longest winning streak in Texas High School football, and finished this season at 14-0.
