The Aledo Freshman Orange team scored the last three touchdowns to rally for a 28-20 victory over Denton Guyer Thursday at Bearcat Stadium.
Guyer led 21-7 early in the third quarter after getting its third score on a play that covered 60 or more yards.
The Wildcats opened the scoring by returning a blocked field goal 70 yards for a touchdown to take a 6-0 lead.
The Aledo rally started with running back Kaden Winkfield’s second touchdown of the game, a 45-yard run with 5:19 left in the third quarter to make it 20-14.
Aledo took a 21-20 lead when Dylan Pipkins hauled in a 34-yard TD pass from Lincoln Tubbs on a fourth-and-13 play in the final minute of the third quarter.
Aledo linebacker Ryland Haley iced the game with a pick-six with 1:31 left in the fourth quarter.
Guyer’s other two touchdowns came on a wide receiver screen that went for 77 yards that gave the Wildcats a 13-7 lead at the half. Guyer then got a 60-yard TD run from its quarterback to make it 20-7 with 5:46 left in the third quarter.
Winkfield’s 5-yard TD run in the second quarter came one play after he had a 35-yard run. Winkfield finished with more than 140 rushing yards.
The Aledo defense came up with many sacks in addition to a pair of turnovers. In addition to Haley’s interception, defensive tackle Kruger Summers recovered a fumble.
