District Champ Aledo Wraps Up Regular Season With 47-6 victory

The Aledo Bearcats finished their District 3-5A Division I schedule undefeated with Thursday’s 47-6 victory over Brewer. Aledo ends the regular season 8-2, 8-0 in district and will host a playoff game next Thursday or Friday.

Aledo will play the fourth-place team from District 4-5A, Killeen Shoemaker, which finished the season with an 8-2 record. Shoemaker’s only two losses were by less than a touchdown to undefeated Midlothian and Red Oak.

That first playoff game may not be the cakewalk Aledo has had in the first round in recent years. The game will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday at Aledo’s Bearcat Stadium so be sure to get a ticket and be loud.

Aledo needed just two offensive plays to open the scoring in Thursday’s 47-6 victory over Brewer. Quarterback Hauss Hejny kept the ball around the right end and raced untouched for a 67-yard TD to give Aledo a 7-0 lead with 9:38 to play in the first quarter.

After Aledo’s defense forced a three-and-out from Brewer, it was running back Hawk Patrick-Daniels’ time to show off. On a seven-play, 56-yard drive, Patrick-Daniels carried the ball six times for all 56 yards. A 23-yard run gave Aledo a first and goal and Patrick-Daniels finished the drive with a 2-yard TD run.

Since Aledo had clinched the district championship two weeks ago, Hejny did not play the rest of the game and Patrick-Daniels played limited snaps the rest of the game.

Senior running back Ryan Cox scored Aledo’s third touchdown on a four-yard run to make it 21-0 late in the third quarter.

Freshman receiver Kaydon Finley caught a 20-yard TD pass from Brant Hayden with 27 seconds left in the first half to make it 27-0.
