The Christian Life Prep School Knights held the Bethesda Christian School Lions scoreless from early in the second quarter until 5:28 was left in the third quarter to erase a 13-point deficit and then pull away for a 47-38 victory in Saturday’s TAPPS District 2-2A first place tie-breaker game.
The Knights earned the first place playoff berth with the victory and a home playoff game against Wylie Prep. With the loss, Bethesda will take the second-place playoff spot in the TAPPS playoffs, which means a road trip to play 21-3 Lubbock All Saints Episcopal School.
The Lions opened strong and led 15-6 after the first quarter then opened the second quarter by scoring the first six points to make it 21-6 with just over six minutes to play in the second quarter.
However, Bethesda didn’t score again until 5:28 was left in the third quarter. The Knights outscored Bethesda 17-0 during the span to take a 23-21 lead. Bethesda had it last lead in the game when a made 3-pointer gave the Lions a 24-23 lead. However, Bethesda made just one of eight free throws over the rest of the quarter which allowed the Knights to open up a 34-30 lead.
Christian Life Prep iced the game by hitting six consecutive free throws over the final 2:20 of the game.
